Western States Newsletter

Meet Jeff Stohr – our recently appointed North American Sales Manager. His territory includes the entire North American Sugar Market except Florida and Mexico. With more than 30-years total experience, Stohr has worked at Western States for over ten years, nine of which have been spent travelling the globe as a Field Service Technician. With his "hands-on" experience and technical expertise, Stohr intimately understands how to maximize centrifugal performance and how to best serve our customers.

Stohr, a Cincinnati native, joined the Army in 1988 and learned electronic and mechanical repair while working on surface-to-air missile systems. Later Stohr worked as an electrician for Ampac Packaging, an industry leader in creative, flexible packaging. Prior to joining Western States, Stohr served as a field technician for ARKU Coil Systems. ARKU, a global firm founded in 1928, is a pioneer in the engineering and development of roller levelers and press feeding technology.

"Jeff understands first-hand the design and inner workings of our centrifugals. With his dedication and industry experience, he’s the consummate problem solver while always serving our customers’ best interests," shares Larry Haubner, Western States Director of Sales and Marketing.

While Stohr has been around the world and back again, his most memorable experience was scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef. His hobbies include soccer, softball and motorcycling. Married to his wife Amie for 25 years they have a sixteen-year-old daughter, a nine-year-old son and two crazy dogs. When he isn’t with family or at Western States, Stohr can be found eating his favorite food, lasagna, playing soccer or watching Australian football.

Western States Celebrates 100 Year Anniversary

On May 8th, Western States held its official 100-Year Anniversary Celebration. With almost 200 in attendance, Western States provided a delicious spread complete with hor d’oeuvres, refreshments, and buffet dinner. Present and past team members (a.k.a. Western States Alumni) enjoyed comradery, laughter and reminiscing. Past presidents Bob Jones (42 years), Robert Fair (25 Years), John Wake, and D. Douglas Buckner (current Vice President International Development) joined in the festivities.

Special guests included the Western States Board of Directors, two Directors from their sister company BIG Tecnología (Brazil) and friends from Mexico, South America and the Philippines. Eugene Roberts’ grandchildren and two of his great grandchildren were honored.

Western States, on behalf of its employees, presented the Board of Directors with a commissioned oil painting of the founder, Eugene Roberts to be permanently displayed in the corporate board room. As a parting gift, Western States gave each person a 300-page, art-style, coffee table book documenting the company’s extensive history and significant contributions to the sugar industry developed by Nancy Rowell Lewit and David Douglas Buckner.
